UV Reactor Integration for a Municipal Water Application

This installation combines a horizontal stainless steel UV reactor, a dedicated control cabinet and flanged connections within the site's pipework layout. The photographs show the overall equipment arrangement and a closer view of the reactor connection and lamp-end assembly.

For municipal water projects, UV is integrated as a microbial inactivation stage within the wider treatment process. Reactor sizing, monitoring and control settings are selected according to water quality, operating conditions and project requirements.

UV Disinfection in Municipal Water Supply

Connecting microbial treatment, system monitoring and pipework integration

Municipal water treatment combines source-water management, treatment, storage and distribution. UV can provide a physical microbial inactivation stage within this treatment train, with system selection based on the water entering the UV reactor and the required treatment objective.

Peak flow, minimum UV transmittance (UVT), target microorganisms and required UV dose are key design inputs. Lamp ageing, quartz-sleeve fouling, operating pressure and installation hydraulics also need to be considered when specifying the equipment.

Monitoring and control requirements should be defined during project design. Depending on the selected configuration, these may include lamp-status indication, UV intensity monitoring, alarms, flow limits and integration with the site's control system.

UV does not leave a disinfectant residual in the distribution network. It should therefore be coordinated with the wider treatment and distribution strategy, including residual disinfection where required. Drinking-water projects also need equipment documentation, performance validation and approvals appropriate to the local authority's requirements.

Plan access for lamp replacement, quartz-sleeve cleaning and sensor maintenance. Pipework orientation, isolation arrangements and control-cabinet placement should support both daily operation and routine servicing.

Physical Microbial Treatment

Integrate UV as a treatment stage without disinfectant dosing at the UV reactor, alongside the project's other water treatment processes.

Monitoring & Control

Review UV monitoring, alarm functions and site-control interfaces against the required operating conditions.

Project-Specific Integration

Coordinate reactor dimensions, connection positions and maintenance clearance with the installation drawings.
