The VPS-203 is designed for whole-house water treatment projects where a compact 8 GPM system may not provide enough capacity during periods of simultaneous water use.
With a rated UVC treatment flow of 45 L/min (12 GPM) at 30 mJ/cm², two 20" × 4.5" Big Blue filter housings, and a 50W UVC LED reactor, the VPS-203 is positioned for larger residential properties, villas, multi-bathroom homes and selected light-commercial point-of-entry applications.
Rather than simply increasing filtration stages, the VPS-203 focuses on two practical requirements:
Higher Peak Flow + Greater Filter Capacity

BUILT FOR HIGHER PEAK WATER DEMAND
Whole-house systems should be selected according to peak simultaneous demand, not only average daily water consumption.
A household may consume relatively little water over the course of a day but still require a much higher instantaneous flow when several fixtures operate at the same time.
For example:
Two showers running simultaneously
Shower + kitchen faucet
Washing machine + bathroom use
Multiple bathrooms in use
Irrigation or utility fixtures operating together
For these projects, the VPS-203 provides:
45 L/min / 12 GPM at 30 mJ/cm²
This gives system designers more capacity for larger residential installations than compact 8 GPM whole-house systems.
WHERE VPS-203 FITS BEST
VPS-203 is especially suitable for projects such as:
Large Residential Homes
Homes with several bathrooms can experience short periods of high simultaneous water demand.
The 12 GPM treatment capacity provides more flexibility when multiple fixtures are operating.
Villas
Villas often combine:
Multiple bathrooms
Large kitchens
Guest rooms
Laundry areas
Outdoor water-use points
For these applications, a larger whole-house treatment platform can be more appropriate than a compact entry-level system.
Holiday Homes & Rental Properties
Vacation homes, Airbnb-style properties and guesthouses can experience unpredictable peak water use when several guests use bathrooms or showers at the same time.
VPS-203 provides a higher-flow treatment platform while retaining a relatively simple residential-scale installation.
Private Well Water Systems
For appropriately pretreated well water, VPS-203 can provide the final combination of:
Sediment Filtration → Carbon Filtration → UVC LED Disinfection
Additional pretreatment may be required where iron, manganese, hardness or turbidity exceeds recommended limits.
Selected Light-Commercial Applications
VPS-203 may also be used in selected small commercial projects where calculated peak flow remains within the rated treatment capacity.
- Typical examples may include:
- Small offices
- Staff facilities
- Clinics
- Small guesthouses
- Small workshops
- Similar low-to-moderate demand applications
- Final selection should always be based on actual peak flow.
WHY 20-INCH FILTERS MATTER
The main mechanical difference between VPS-203 and compact whole-house systems is the use of:
2 × 20" × 4.5" Big Blue Filter Housings
The advantage of the larger housing is not simply physical size.
It provides more space for filtration media and contaminant loading.
Higher Dirt-Holding Capacity
A larger sediment cartridge can retain more suspended solids before reaching its service limit.
This can be beneficial where incoming water contains:
Fine sediment
Rust
Sand
Silt
Pipe debris
Greater Carbon Media Volume
The larger carbon cartridge provides more carbon media than a comparable 10-inch cartridge.
This makes the 20-inch platform more appropriate for higher water consumption applications.
More Suitable for Higher-Flow Installations
As household demand increases, filtration capacity becomes increasingly important.
A small cartridge may technically pass the required water volume but can create higher pressure loss or require more frequent servicing under heavy use.
The 20-inch format gives designers more flexibility for higher-demand whole-house projects.
FLOW RATE VS UVC DOSE
The available treatment flow changes according to the required UVC dose.
| UVC Dose | Treatment Flow |
|---|---|
| 16 mJ/cm² | 85 L/min |
| 30 mJ/cm² | 45 L/min / 12 GPM |
| 40 mJ/cm² | 34 L/min |
For residential drinking-water projects, the required UVC dose should be established before the system is selected.
A system should never be selected only by its highest published flow rate.
The correct selection should consider:
Required Dose + Peak Flow + UVT + Turbidity + Water Quality
WHY PRE-FILTRATION MATTERS BEFORE UVC
UVC LED performance depends heavily on the optical quality of the incoming water.
Particles and certain dissolved contaminants can interfere with the transmission of UVC energy.
For this reason, the VPS-203 places physical filtration before the UVC LED reactor.
Recommended incoming water conditions include:
| Parameter | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Turbidity | < 1 NTU |
| Iron | < 0.3 ppm |
| Manganese | < 0.05 ppm |
| Hardness | < 120 ppm / 7 gpg |
| UV Transmittance | > 90% |
| Water Temperature | 4–37°C |
| Feed Water Pressure | 10–100 psi |
If the source water exceeds these conditions, additional pretreatment may be required.
