UV-C light, like radio waves and X-rays, is an invisible form of electromagnetic radiation. It makes up all wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation, including light, radio waves and x-rays which are arranged according to frequency and wavelength. UV light is a special type of radiation that can’t be seen by the naked eye because it is part of the invisible section that makes up the electromagnetic spectrum. To be precise, its wavelength is from 400 nm (750 THz) to 100 nm (30 PHz), shorter than that of visible light.

In water purification, the uvc filtration, with the wavelength of only 254 nm, is able to kill microorganisms, such as germs and viruses effectively. By destroying the cells, the UV-C light filter will sterilize the microorganisms. However, it just prevents the DNA reproduction of these microorganisms, but not removes them from the water.

So to say, if you only use the water sterilizer with uvc filtration alone, it will only kill the bacteria and viruses that cause many of your diseases, but it won’t remove other potential allergens like dust, dust mites, pollen or pet dander.

Q1:Does the unit need to be on continuously?

Yes, The UV lamp needs to operate for several minutes to reach full UV output. Excessive on/off cycling of the UV lamp will greatly reduce its life expectancy. Additionally, by having the unit on continuously the chance that untreated water will be consumed is minimized.

Q2:Where do i install the uv disinfection unit?

UV disinfection equipment should always be the last stage of any water treatment system and should be installed so that both the cold water distribution system and the hot water heater receive the UV disinfected water.
