UV filters are used for drinking water where you have or are worried about bacteria, viruses or microorganisms in the drinking water. Bacteria have also been shown to be a problem in municipal waters as they survive for a long time in the water network. UV disinfection is a method where you expose harmful organisms to ultraviolet light which makes them sterile and therefore harmless.

Poor water conditions can cause a lot of illnesses and diseases for humans. Although municipal water systems use chlorine in disinfecting water, it cannot kill certain protozoa and remains in the water for long. Using UV light in purifying water is safe, efficient, and eco-friendly.
