Unlike chemical approaches to water disinfection, UV light provides rapid, effective inactivation of microorganisms through a physical process. When bacteria, viruses and protozoa are exposed to the germicidal wavelengths of UV light, they are rendered incapable of reproducing and infecting.
UV disinfection is a physical process that instantly neutralizes microorganisms as they pass through UV lamps immersed in the effluent. The process does not add anything to the water except UV light and therefore has no impact on the chemical composition or dissolved oxygen content of the water. In this regard, compliance with the increasingly strict regulations for the discharge of waste water effluent is ensured.
