Brief Introduction Of Quartz Sleeve

Quartz sleeves are indispensable accessories for water treatment equipment in UV disinfection systems. The main functions are:

①Protect the lamp ②Ensure the transmittance of ultraviolet rays

The casing can be cleaned once every six months or a year, and it can be cleaned with gauze soaked with alcohol. If it is an open channel UV sterilizer or a UV sterilizer with a large number of lamps, the self-cleaning function can be selected.

Quartz glass definition

The material of the quartz sleeve is quartz glass, which is an amorphous material with a single component of silicon dioxide. Its microstructure is a simple network composed of silicon dioxide tetrahedral structural units. Due to the large chemical bond energy of Si-O , The structure is very compact, so quartz glass has unique properties, especially the optical properties of transparent quartz glass are very excellent, and it has excellent transmittance in the continuous wavelength range of ultraviolet to infrared radiation.

How is Quartz Glass Made?

Quartz glass is made of natural crystalline quartz (crystal or pure silica) or synthetic silane by melting at high temperature. The melted product has good processability. In the higher viscosity range, the tube and rod can be thermally processed like ordinary glass fine work, and high-speed machining can also be carried out with abrasive tools made of diamond or silicon carbide. Processing, so as to make various complex shapes of instruments and special products.

The performance of quartz glass mainly depends on its purity, followed by the process or thermal system. The existence of trace impurities will have a significant impact on the performance of quartz glass; at the same time, due to the slight negligence of the technological process or thermal system, it will bring various shortcomings to the appearance quality, resulting in a large number of waste products.

In summary, the processing technology of the quartz sleeve is relatively complicated, the nozzle needs to be annealed and burned, and the quartz is fragile, so the cost is relatively high.

What are the characteristics of quartz glass tube

 1. High temperature resistance

The softening point temperature of quartz glass is about 1730°C, it can be used for a long time at 1100°C, and the temperature can be as high as 1450°C for a short time.

 2. Corrosion resistance

Except for hydrofluoric acid, quartz glass hardly reacts with other acid substances, its acid resistance is 30 times that of ceramics and 150 times that of stainless steel, especially its chemical stability at high temperature, which is unmatched by any other engineering materials.

3. Good thermal stability

Quartz glass has a small thermal expansion coefficient and can withstand severe temperature changes. Quartz glass is heated to about 1100℃, and it will not burst into normal temperature water.

 4. Good light transmission performance

Quartz glass has good light transmittance in the entire spectral band from ultraviolet to infrared, and the transmittance of visible light is above 95%, especially in the ultraviolet spectral region, the transmittance can reach above 80%.

Why quartz can be used as optical glass

Quartz glass has its unique optical properties. It can transmit far ultraviolet spectrum, which is better than all ultraviolet transmitting materials, and can transmit visible light and near infrared spectrum. Users can choose any desired varieties from the 185-3500mμ band range according to their needs. Because quartz glass has high temperature resistance, small thermal expansion coefficient, good chemical thermal stability, bubbles, stripes, uniformity, and birefringence comparable to general optical glass, it is a high-stability optical system that works in various harsh occasions.
