A new UVC (ultraviolet-C) sterilization device developed by Chinese companies has shown 99.99% efficacy against coronavirus during a test by the Hubei Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), they report local media.
The HGC-UVC sterilization device – which basically represents ultraviolet sanitizing lamps– achieved that coronavirus inactivation rate after operation for 10 minutes of one of its modules, according to a report released by the Hubei CDC.
Compared with the traditional disinfection performed by the mercury lamp, the new device has higher sterilization efficiency, lower power consumption and longer service life: between 10,000 and 50,000 hours. In addition, it can effectively kill pathogenic bacteria, such as staphylococcus aureus, candida albicans and coliforms, China Daily collects.
Now, the lamp is part of the first batch of UVC sterilization module products approved for sterilization against coronavirus in the country.
